Wireless & Networking
Understanding Networks
Networks are in the most simple terms a bunch of computers that are communicating with each other in a zone which is normally in your home or business called a network. This network has what we call a router in the middle. From there the computers communicate either with a ethernet cable (at common speeds of 100mb/s or 1000mb/s) or wirelessly.
Wifi has different standards at which devices communicate. Most common is 54g which enables speeds of up to 54mb/s between users. The newer 54n standards will be 4x faster and as always new standards are being developed.
Who Uses Networks
Networks have a wide variety of uses. From business environments, where employees need to have access to shared files and need to send & receive information from all the networked computers, to home uses where the most common uses are sharing documents and media items within the household.
If you have a central computer you can use it as a media centre. From there all other computers and even some T.V's can play that media. The faster your network speeds the better the picture you can get when playing videos.
